Windows media player 11 is a shareware product developed by Microsoft corporation to help you with managing your media files. It's smart design together with new handy functions like online music stores, forward and backward buttons, or media library, makes it very attractive. For users of Microsoft Windows XP/Vista it is a must have. The installation requires that the user has a genuine Microsoft Windows, so this won't let many users of Linux and those with pirated copies of windows have this app. The process of verifying your copy of Windows wastes a lot of time, which is a downside. After installation you have to start the search for media files so that they can be added to the library. This is another time consuming process but it is very fruitful in long run, as once the files have been added, the player itself keeps track of any new addition, or change in location or removal of any media file from the system. With the help of five-star rating, or number of times the file has been played, year of release, album, artist etc., you can easily search the file and play it. The hotkeys can be changed, yet they have to be a combination of two keys. Also, the search process cannot be done using the keyboard and there is no option for fast forwarding the file. This makes windows media player "mouse software" and thus a bit uncomfortable to use.
The player's minimode is a handy innovation, which allows you to play files and watch videos by placing the video window on the toolbar. Its ability to sync with other devices allows you to enjoy your music on a go. It can also rip music out of your CD, thus allowing you to share your favorite music with your friends. You can also write your own audio disk using Windows Media Player. It has many equalizer functions that help you to customize the way your file is played; and its backward and forward buttons allow you to keep track of the changes you make.
Another good feature is the program's ability to sign up with paid music and video stores. This allows you to search and compare the prices of any media file available online. All in all its a great media player, and let's hope the next version of this software is more keyboard friendly.
